Hey everyone! I just wanted to share a story I submitted to PBS' American Portrait not too long ago, which you can find here. I've also included the story below as well:

The tradition I carry on is…

The tradition I carry on is . . . to heal.

My mom and dad left their home country during the Vietnam War and sought refuge in the States. They did what they could to live a better life here, but they perpetually struggled with being displaced from a country that was rightfully their home. They bottled up this anger and resentment, and unfortunately, they projected this onto their only child through moments of abuse, neglect, and unspeakable cruelty.

The damage has been done, but I won't let my past, nor theirs, nor the past of generations before us keep us from moving forward. I'm going to do what they all couldn't do: be willing to be open and to feel everything, the good and the bad.

So the tradition I carry on is to heal - myself and others and the generational pain we all share.

Oooh. I thought it'd be fun to do this to walk down memory lane. So here we go!

1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?

It says I've been on here for 10 years, but I've been using this account on and off. I created this account when I was 13 and then used it for about two years before I stopped and used it intermittently. Then I started using it again a little bit before starting my freshman year in college to keep up with some artists I met through an art forum, Polykarbon. This was about a year before I used the account intermittently again. Then, I didn't use it again 'til
after I graduated college to upload work for a professional portfolio.

So I'd say, really, a total of 4 and 1/2 years.

2. What does your username mean?

It was named after the Greek goddess of retribution, Nemesis. I meant to make an illustration of her when I first started this account, but . . .

Eh.

3. Describe yourself in three words.

sweets-lovin' artist. Who doesn't love good nom noms?

4. Are you left or right handed?

right

5. What was your first deviation?

Hahahahaha. Wow. This was originally for a Neopets art contest about 11 years ago.

6. What is your favourite type of art to create?

Fantasy, usually based on non-Western ancient cultures, and experimental designs.

7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

Kazuma Kaneko's style and the general SMT art direction, hands down.

8. What was your first favourite?

One of the first, to be fair.

9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?

Usually watercolor pieces or traditional art in general.

10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

This is tough. I can't narrow it down to just one. So, I'm going to list my top 4 5 favorite deviant artists and my favs from them:

11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

I don't think I've gotten that impression yet. It depends. Are they pretty down-to-earth and cool to hang out with? B-)

12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

Not sure yet. We'll see though. :)

13. What are your preferred tools to create art?

Watercolors and casein paint. Also plasticine clay and Sculpey whenever I get the chance. Oh, and I would love to go back to my jewelry and metal work roots.

14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

New temporary art room at my house. I would love to work outdoors if I could, but not in this heat.

15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

Seeing artists that I suggested for the recent Daily Deviation Drive get on the front page! Give a big thanks to :iconliliwrites: for creating the event!
